A hectare of land, a unique vision and outstanding building solutions has paved the way for a large scale 2-storey residential project within a countryside living zone.
From the beginning, this grand countryside housing endeavour brought immense satisfaction. BCG CONSTRUCTION executed the construction in accordance with plans, meeting both the timeline and budget requirements, encompassing all aspects of the project from civil and earthworks to Code Compliance Certificate.
Numerous factors were taken into consideration for this construction project, particularly because the 1-hectare plot of land was in a flood prone area. This vulnerability became evident at the outset of the project when nature unleashed its fury with Cyclone Gabrielle, inundating the site with water. While the design plans had anticipated the dwelling’s location on a flood plain, nothing could fully prepare for such a catastrophic setback. Despite this challenge, BCG CONSTRUCTION did not falter; instead, took proactive measures by channelling overflow away from the site, ensuring positive drainage and continuing progress.
Given the expansive nature of the land, the placement of the residence took precedence. It was essential for this grand dwelling to command attention while maintaining privacy and allowing for passive surveillance, necessitating careful consideration. This involved precise earthworks to establish the placement of various infrastructure elements including a 25,000 litre water tank pump station and filtration system, as well as stormwater overflow discharge to the stream and rainwater discharge to tank. Additionally, it was necessary to create a building pad with positive drainage away from the house where required.
Following the completion of earthworks, construction commenced on the 557m2, 2-storey dwelling designed to accommodate 6 bedrooms – each with ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, 2 offices (one with separate access), 3 living spaces, kitchen, dining area, laundry, gym and an attached garage. Noteworthy is the architectural design’s inclusion of a grand porte cochère entrance to the residential building. This feature serves to provide shelter to passengers as they enter or exit vehicles, adding both functional and aesthetic value to the structure.
Beginning the construction of the residence, the insitu concrete foundations, waffle slab and pilings were laid and finished, establishing the groundwork for the floor plan, structural framework and timber framing. Subsequently, 350 prelim columns and beams, fabricated timber trusses and rafters, and bracing were installed, all constructed in compliance with the building code, as per the design, geotechnical engineering and structural plans.
Actualising the dream and blending seamlessly with the natural countryside landscape, the residence began to emerge. The distinctive roofline, crafted with durability in mind, was constructed using robust materials including Viking CertainTeed shingles, ColorSteel Trimdek and Viking Polyclad membrane. For the exterior wall cladding, bevelback weatherboard, cedar shiplap and brick veneer were chosen for their enduring resilience against weather conditions, ensuring longevity and aesthetic appeal.
At the front entrance, under the porte cochère, an oversized pivot door opens to a semi-circular foyer featuring elegantly curved stairs that sweep both to the left and, to the right. This grand design evokes a sense of being warmly welcomed, also spurring on your curiosity to explore the second floor.
The interior showcases carefully selected materials to fashion a spacious, luxurious home. Plush, neutral toned carpeting adorns the bedrooms, living and dining areas, lounge, office, media and toy rooms, and hallways. Impeccable floor tiling graces the curved lobby entrance, ensuites, bathrooms and laundry spaces. Adding warmth and ambience, a Rinnai linear gas fireplace stands as a centrepiece in the living and dining area. Given the family’s fondness for hosting guests, there’s a discreet butler’s kitchen nestled behind the main kitchen and dining lounge area – conveniently located it’s easy to whip up meals for the family and prepare lavish feasts when entertaining visitors. With seamless access from the open kitchen, dining and lounge area you can step outside to unwind and enjoy a picturesque view, complete with neighbouring horses. The connected garage, features concrete flooring, providing ample room for at least two vehicles, wall insulation between house and garage for added comfort.
BCG CONSTRUCTION has meticulously constructed, outfitted and perfected the residence using high quality materials and appliances carefully chosen to align with the owners’ tone, style and personality while seamlessly blending with the surrounding countryside landscape. The selection of products and materials was made from BCG’s onsite showroom, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic throughout.
Altogether, the residence exudes a subtle opulence and luxury, spacious without sacrificing comfort and cosiness. It emanates the inviting embrace of a family home, enveloping you in warmth from the moment you step inside.
