Tiling can either make or break your bathroom or kitchen. Installing tile in your home can be a big investment. Kitchen and bathroom remodels, specifically, are the two most expensive renovation projects. So the last thing you want to do is pay for a new tile floor, only to find out it’s not in style anymore. To help you stay in the know of what’s hot and what’s not in the world of tile, we asked a few of our in house interior designers to cue us in. They gave us their predictions on which new tile trends we’ll be seeing in 2018. So read on, tile-lovers! And don’t pull the trigger on that subway tile backsplash just yet. If you are looking to take the plunge and revamp this room it can be particularly daunting choosing the right wall finishing, as depending on the size of the bathroom, this could be the biggest expenditure of the project.
Should you opt for a plain tile for longevity? Or express yourself and interior tastes by choosing a bold pattern or bright colour? Looking at the most recent bathroom tile trends is an excellent start to choosing wall or floor finishes for a bathroom. This can help to determine new looks on the scene, which will keep the room looking stylish for longer.

Perhaps the most used colour in the history of bathroom design, blue had disappeared in the bathroom style stakes in recent years, however in 2018 it will be back with a bang. Indigo is set to be the big hue to watch out for but azures and turquoise will also be making a resurgence. Fabulously fresh, blue and bathrooms go hand in hand, but this year’s trend is all about adding sophisticated elements to give the look a stylish edge. Think inky blue walls with gleaming brass facets and accessories or vibrant blue tiles in unique, eye-catching patterns.

Choosing the perfect flooring for your bathroom can be just as much of a minefield as choosing the wall tiling. However, as floor space is usually a lot smaller than wall space, flooring is far easier to replace than wall tiles. Because of this it could be more cost efficient to add more daring designs to your bathroom through the flooring which can be changed a few years down the line if your tastes change. An excellent complement to plain white or neutral tiles, even in delicate colours themselves, they still pack a big interior punch that transforms the room instantly.

Natural elements will be infiltrating the whole home in 2018 including the bathroom. Inspired by the need to add a hint of the natural world to our interiors which have become overwhelmed with technology, the interior industry is full of pared back, natural looks like Amara’s Earthen Luxe trend which will be continued through to the bathroom. The best way to infuse this look into your bathroom space is through wood flooring which can be continued to the walls or contrasted with natural stone or marble. Certain to give bathrooms a tranquil, spa like quality, these natural elements will also stand the test of time.

For those that are longing for an opulent bathroom look to relax and unwind in – look to adding a dash of gold. Warm metallics are certainly here to stay in 2018, but unlike the coppers and rose golds seen in recent years, this year will be bursting with brass and golden hues. A flash of gold tiling as a border or in an alcove like a shower enclosure is all you need to pull this look off and make sure to keep the rest of the space in block colours to ensure your bathroom doesn’t cross the line from indulgent to gaudy. Deep indigo blues as mentioned above are a fabulous colour combination for gold or stick with fresh white for just a hint of luxe.

Terracotta tiles inject a natural, rustic tone to interiors and bring an instant warmth and comfort to a space.

We are seeing a lot of interest in handmade tile with glaze and colour variation. Anything that adds earthiness to a room is great. Especially when it’s combined with a bold colour. There are currently a lot of options in the grey and blue world.

Is subway tile on its way out? I think subway tile will always be around and will always be appropriate for certain traditional styles of homes. To give it a new spin, you could experiment with the grout. Even if the pattern is just a white subway tile, creating a bit of contrast with bold, dark grout is a way to make your space look a bit more unique.

Patterned tile will always be a winner in my book. It creates a fun backdrop to any style kitchen or bathroom, and it allows for pattern and texture to stand out in an otherwise boring space. Anything from geometric to southwestern. The bolder the better!

Many may not know that high-style terracotta tile comes in a variety of rich colours and tones. After years of subway tiles reigning supreme, the Moroccan zellige tile, which is a glazed terracotta tile, offers the same classic shapes with a high-gloss finish and subtle texture that can make any space feel custom made and high design.

if you’re still partial to the affordable price tag of subway tile, why not use a fresh layout pattern? We are seeing parquet patterns more and more as a way of spicing up inexpensive subway tile. It’s a great way of getting a high-end custom look without spending a lot on material.

Black tiles matched with black grout is the perfect combination if you are after a sleek and modern backsplash, bathroom floor, or around a fireplace. An added bonus is you don’t have to worry about cleaning the grout quite as much either!

You may notice that you are starting to see less glossy tiles and more matte. Using a matte tile allows for the shape and colour of the tile to become the main focus rather than the finish. It also adds a layer of sophistication and simplicity to the space. We also hear comments from our clients about the beautiful contrast they create when paired with metallic fixtures.
